By the way...

Please check this blog at least once or twice a week to follow up with the flow of the project. We will use the TAU staff yahoo group to store files. If any of you have any TCN related stuff to relay, please feel free to post (I've invited all of you to author).

We'll also make posts for agendas of upcoming rehearsals/production meetings - and if you can't make it or would like to bring up something for said meetings, this will also be a good place to say so (reply to the post).

Have a good one people.

TCN 2009 Production Meeting 1

We've established some preliminaries and everything so far seems to be in order. Additional details will be discussed in future production meetings. As we've discussed in the meeting, Kris and many of our funding sources felt that some of the material put on for 2008 were inappropriate for portrayal of both our club and UCLA as a community. Unfortunately, we may be hindered financially because of the impressions. Though there is now not much we could've done or can do now about the situation, at least for 2009 I trust all of you in your better judgments in what is controversial and what is not. We will steer clear of controversial material all together to avoid complications. Anyway, our decisions are as followed for this year:

Venue: Freud Auditorium - 3rd week of Spring quarter '09

Positions:
Jason Sun - Producer
Esther Jou - Director, Stage Manager
Hannah Hsieh - Director
Albert Kao - Tech Director
William Wang - Props Master
Angela Liu - Secretary, Assistant Stage Manager
Jerry Cheng - Choir Director
Andrew Wang - Video
Florence Hung - Finance Director, Assistant Stage Manager
Richard Liang - Assistant Finance
Diana Tang - Choreographer
Barbara Sheng - Publicity
Jeff Yu - Publicity

Finance:
Start looking for sponsors over summer and throughout the year. Start early.

Script:
Much of the idea for the script has already been established. We are opening idea submissions to our TAU staff and member group and will hopefully be incorporating appropriate ones into our story.

Deadlines:

Fall Quarter - Close idea submissions
Week 0 - Production Meeting 2
Week 1 - TAU Orientation
Week 2 - Auditions
Week 3 - Auditions
Week 4 - Auditions
Week 5 - Production Meeting 3
Week 6-10 - Finalize Script

Winter Quarter
Week 1 or 2 (depending on ski trip) - TCN Retreat
Week 3-10 - Rehearsals/Making Props

I hope that everyone can work well together as a team. If anyone has any problems with anything or anyone else involving the project, please let me know; It is after all my responsibility as producer to resolve issues and make sure we an awesome year together!

-Jason 'Sunny' Sun

Here are the additional notes taken at the meeting:

Some of material from TCN 2007-208 was inappropriate

Video from Riverside, demeaning of other countries / cultures

Korean portion during the play

Financing organizations did not approve

Almost had to meet with CPC

No controversy in the script this year

Talk to them if anything is on the borderline

Venue = Freud Playhouse

Possibly have projection as background

Spotlight

o Either won't move

o 500 more per person to operate spotlights

Finance will be sketchy this year

Might not get as much as this year for money next year

Contact Kris for next year venue

Can still play video, might be filming in Taiwan over summer

Date

Don't want it on Memorial Weekend

Before 5th Week Spring quarter (2nd 3rd week?)

Moving Night Market to late Winter quarter

Talk to Kris about venue sometime this quarter?

Script

Don't want script to be just from 1 or 2 people

Currently have a rough script

Want to open up to submissions

More main characters

ABC Girl, unfamiliar with Taiwan, doesn't understand why Taiwan is good

Start in Taiwan, talk to friend in US with phone

Has a cousin, ABC also more moderate

Call up childhood friend, left for Taiwan for high school and college

Take her to different places in Taiwan

Talk about food, culture, politics

Show influences of other cultures

 Meet up, introduce

Introduce male main character

Go out on "date"

Moving background when on motorcycle

Taipei 101, Luxy, stuff like that

Show what TV is like in Taiwan

Lead into modern dance (Albert / Hannah?)

KTV to lead into choir

MTV to go with choir, they will figure out themselves

Jerry beatboxing inside speaker

Will have a lot of props and scene changes involved

Spread out, have them be together

Good introduction

Directors in charge, but anything has to be run through executive board first

Musical? = Too early

Maybe not full on, but incorporate music in

Choir has interest in musical

Add in dancing to make it a little more interesting

Details later
